New season first impression: Part 1

Welcome to the fall season anime of 2008 everybody! Lots of anime, and many have already been put online, here’s a quick review of the few that came out with fansubs during the past few days.

Side note: Was going to do a preview of the whole season…but by the time I sort through everything, it the new season was already here, no need to preview what’s already here.

Rosario + Vampire Capu 2

Dear lord…where should I even begin with this one. Let’s see, there are a lot of panty shots; 55 of them in 24 minutes episode, to be exact. Here were my rules about counting the panty shots in this anime, for every flash, I counted 1. Those from the same action only get counted as 1, and more than 1 panty shot in a single frame from more than one female count as 1.

…Anyways, putting the interesting amount of panty shots aside. What you found from last season of R+V can still be found in this season. Amazing voice over work by the same cast of last season, the comedy, the various monsters, and of course, the panty shots.

If it wasn’t for Mizuki Nana, I probably won’t even be watching this show. That said, the first episode will probably be the only episode I don’t watch using the ’skip watching’ method. (Aka, keep using the skip ahead 5 second hot key in Media Player Classic)

More after the jump!

Toradora!

From sexy, to crazy. This anime is a must watch from this season. The comedy level of this anime is simply off the hook, definitely promising from the first episode.

Meet Ryuuji, a high schooler with the most terrifying angry look. Turns out however, he’s just an ordinary high schooler who wanted to live an ordinary life…but his angry looks always gets in the way. Then there’s Taiga, a loli with a bossy attitude. When the two meet, let’s just say it wasn’t the best meeting ever. Yet, due to some twisted factors, the two come to a deal to help each other with their crushes. My my, this can only end well.

As far as seiyuu goes for this series, worry not. For you have expert loli tsundere seiyuu Kugimiya Rie voicing Taiga. Other seiyuu include: Horie Yui voicing Ryuuji’s crush, and Tanaka Rie voicing for their home room teacher.

Hyakko

Another anime with that starts off rather odd, while this should be a slice-of-life girl school kind of anime, it is a little more crazy than usual. The first episode was pretty much an introduction to the heroines: Torako the crazy hyperactive girl; Suzume, the unpredictable quiet one; Tatsuki, the ojou-sama; and Ayumi, the airhead.

The most notable seiyuu for this show is Hirano Aya, guess who she will be voicing? Nope, not Torako. Instead, she will be voicing Ayumi the airhead. The only other notable seiyuu I can think of is Orikasa Fumiko, who voiced Rukia in Bleach.

Clannad ~Afterstory~

There really isn’t much to say for this show. Director is Ishihara Tatsuya, most notable for directing The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi, but he also did Air and Kanon. The usual comedy within drama is still there in the second season, not much has change about that…

The only major change I can think of is perhaps the new OP and ED. No more eufonius’ amazing singing or the cutesy dango dance (T_T), they are replaced by song sung by no other then the famous Lia.

Conclusion: Ready to laugh and cry at the same time.

Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka

If I am not mistaken, this is the only eroge adaptation this season (Aside from Clannad, but that wasn’ eroge). That said, this looks like it’ll be your typical harem anime with a hyperactive friend, a loving and considerate sister and a newly met girl.

Here’s a quick summary, the protagonist, Nagase Junichi saves a girl on the street who was being teased by two delinquents. The delinquents quickly recognize Junichi as the rumoured violent high schooler nicknamed “Geno Killer” and was scared off. Turns out that rumour was just all fiction created by his friends (some friends they are). Anyhow, more and more happenings throughout the episode as they become classmates. Then more random happenings and at the very end of the first episode, the girl he saved shows up at his door saying she’ll live there. (Original indeed…)

Quick seiyuu review: Kugimiya Rie voices Katagiri Yuuhi (The girl Junichi saved), Hirano Aya voices Minato aka Junichi’s sister, Hatano Wataru (Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu’s Ayase Yuto) will be voicing Junichi.

Last note: While this was originally an eroge, I believe this anime adaptation was based off of the PS2 adaptation of the eroge judging from the looks of the seiyuu list.

That’s all for now, I’ll post more as more of the new season shows up.
